[ 24 février 2010 ] The official vote count result is that faculty have narrowly accepted the Colleges’ offer. The Union accepts this democratic outcome. The official count was important. The Colleges’ refusal to conduct the customary advance poll resulted in an extraordinarily high number of mail-in ballots from persons unable to vote at the February 10 polls. The Union insisted it was important to respect those voters by including their input. There have been an unusually high number of problems with the vote conducted by the Colleges. A number of eligible voters who requested mail-in ballots from their Colleges still have not received those ballots! Voting irregularities have been identified and formal complaints have been filed. The Union is disappointed that the major issues raised by the 2009 Workload Task Force have not been resolved. This vote is not an endorsement of the imposed terms and conditions. Fear of a strike, according to most reports, was a key factor in the marginal vote to accept. The addition of nearly 800 partial-load teachers after the January strike vote certainly had a major impact on the February offer vote. With such a close result, there are no winners in this round. The unresolved issues will remain a priority for faculty. Our task now is to work to resolve the problems in the system that the Colleges failed to address this time. Results still uncertainFebruary 12, 2010 The vote on management’s offer last received is not yet completed. Segregated and mail-in ballots will need to be counted to determine the final result, depending on the number of ballots mailed in. Eight thousand, three hundred and sixty valid ballots have been counted and the unofficial results at this time are 4,285 to accept and 4,075 to reject the offer. However, over 350 mail-in ballots were sent out and another 141 ballots have been segregated. Overall, there may be over 500 ballots yet to be counted, depending on the mail-in rate of return. Accordingly, there can be no definitive statement of results. The official count is scheduled for February 24th more… Vote Results by College . . . .
